Dr. Collins Awarded CIHR Project Grant

By March 10, 2021No Comments

Dr. Colin Collins has been awarded a five-year CIHR Project Grant for “Uncovering early mediators of lineage plasticity and validation of a metabolic vulnerability in neuroendocrine prostate cancer” (co-investigators: Dr. YZ Wang and Dr. Martin Gleave).

This project will study two potential therapeutic approaches aimed at  preventing the onset of neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC), which currently has no effective therapies for treatment or prevention.  Adenocarcinoma of the prostate ultimately progresses to castrate-resistant prostate cancer, which can become lethal NEPC through the process of neuroendocrine transdifferentiation (NEtD). By testing the effect of blocking pathways supsected to cause NEtD in model systems, the aim is to discover novel therapeutic targets.
