SUMMARY:Conducting Indigenous-Related Research: Behavioural Research Ethics Considerations
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, UBC’s research ethics project officer Wendy Bond will provide an overview of how UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan is being implemented in the Office of Research Ethics for Behavioural Research. She will discuss the ethics involved and the support available when conducting Indigenous-related research. Attendees will also learn about the development of a pilot Indigenous research ethics application designed to better support Indigenous-focused research. \nLearning objectives\nIn this workshop you will learn: \n\nthe difference between behavioural and clinical research\nwhich projects qualify for review by the Behavioural Research Ethics Board (BREB)\nethical considerations when engaging with Indigenous communities\, collectives and organizations\nthe specifics of the UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan implementation by BREB\nwho to contact regarding Indigenous behavioural research initiatives\n\nWith discussion lead by moderator: \n\nDr. Gabrielle Legault\, Director\, VCHRI Indigenous Health Research Unit\n\nThis workshop is part of our VCHRI Research Training Series. This series is designed to support the acquisition of advanced skills\, techniques and knowledge and lead to enhanced practices in the conduct of research. \nAbout the speaker\nWendy Bond is a research ethics project officer at UBC’s Office of Research Ethics (ORE)\, which she joined in 2013 as part of the project team implementing research ethics harmonization in B.C. (now under the auspices of Michael Smith Health Research BC). Since then\, she has contributed to developing support materials for researchers related to ethics submissions. She also manages the ORE website and oversees UBC’s US Financial Conflict of Interest compliance and the review of research participant complaints. \n  \nRegister today!
