DESCRIPTION:What happens when a comedian walks into a volcano?\n\n\n\nThe Pacific Museum of Earth and the Department of Earth\, Ocean\, and Atmospheric Sciences at UBC present VOLCANO\, a one-of-a-kind comedy show by scientist-turned-comedian Ben Miller. \nIn 2023\, Ben became the first stand-up comedian ever selected as an Artist in Residence at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park — and yes\, he’s actually told jokes in front of a lava lake. In this 60-minute show\, he blends volcanology\, entomology\, Hawaiian history\, and everyday quirks (like cats and cookies) into sharp\, clever comedy that’s equal parts hilarious and educational. \nWhether you’re a scientist\, a teacher\, a student\, or just here for some jokes\, you’ll never look at a volcano the same way again. Audiences have called VOLCANO “nerdy and vivid\,” “hilarious and clever\,” and “the best volcanology jokes you’ll ever hear.” \nAbout Ben \nBen Miller is a NYC-based scientist turned comedian. Over the past 8 years\, he has performed at top clubs such as Broadway Comedy Club\, Carolines\, and The Stand. Ben was once ranked as the top roast battler in NYC. He has a degree in Materials Science and Engineering\, has worked on a science bus\, 3D printed cookies\, and even diffused a few bar fights while on stage.
