SUMMARY:2026 Don Rix Distinguished Keynote Address
DESCRIPTION:Can we really bring back the mammoth? \n\n\n\nIn this talk\, paleogenomicist Beth Shapiro walks through what it actually takes to revive an extinct species and why the honest answer is more interesting than the myth. \nDrawing on decades of work sequencing ancient DNA\, Shapiro breaks down the real science behind de-extinction: what we can learn from mammoth genomes\, why cloning a mammoth is impossible and what scientists are doing instead. \nShe explains how the same genetic tools being developed for de-extinction are already being used to help living species survive and what a cold-tolerant\, mammoth-like elephant could mean for Arctic ecosystems. \nJoin Dr. Beth Shapiro for the 2026 Don Rix Distinguished Keynote Address! \n\n\n\nYou don’t want to miss this special event  \n\n\n\nWhen:  Monday\, November 2\, 2026 \n4:00 – 4:30 PM Registration\n4:30 – 6:00 PM Keynote Address and Q&A\n6:00 – 7:00 PM Reception \nWhere: Vancouver Convention Centre West Building \n Admission is free\, however registration is required.

SUMMARY:Bioentrepreneurship Night
DESCRIPTION:If you’re into biotech\, healthcare\, startups\, or venture\, this is the room to be in. Whether you’re building already\, exploring an idea\, working in research\, or just curious about where science can take you\, come meet the people turning ambitious ideas into real-world impact. \nBioentrepreneurship Night aims to bring together early-career talent\, founders\, investors\, and ecosystem builders for an evening of honest conversations\, practical insights\, and new connections across the BC life sciences ecosystem. \nWhat to Expect \n– We kick things off with Partner Pitches. Hear from Louis-Alexandre Fournier of Creative Destruction Lab\, Colton Strong of Amplitude Ventures\, and Weiqi Li of the Praxis Spinal Cord Institute as they share how their programs support emerging biotech and healthcare founders- and what they’re looking for in the next generation of innovators. \n– Then\, we get the founder perspective. At our Founder Fireside Chat\, facilitated by Karina from Nucleate Canada\, hear directly from founders who have gone through these programs and are building companies at the intersection of biotechnology\, healthcare\, and innovation. \n– Then it’s your turn. The Founder Showcase\, facilitated by Tej from Front Row Ventures\, will feature a series of 3-minute pitches from founders in our community. Come hear what they’re building\, cheer them on\, and see what early-stage biotech entrepreneurship actually looks like. \n– We close with refreshments and time to connect. Meet other early-career builders\, founders\, investors\, and people working across the BC life sciences ecosystem. \nDetails  \n5:30pm: Registration + refreshments \n6:00pm: Partner Pitches \n6:30pm: Founder Fireside Chat \n7:00pm: Founder Showcase \n7:30pm: Networking + mingling \nDress code: Come as you are (smart casual is perfect) \nYou’ll Leave With \n- A better understanding of how biotech ideas move from research to real-world impact \n- A clearer picture of the programs\, investors\, and people who can help you build \n– Inspiration from founders who are actively building in healthcare and biotechnology \n– New connections and maybe even the push you need to take your own idea one step further!
