SUMMARY:SBME Distinguished Lecture: Dr. Tejal Desai
DESCRIPTION:Therapeutic Biomaterials: Engineering Material “Structure” to Modulate Biologic Delivery\nAbstract \nThe ability to deliver therapeutics within and across biologic barriers is a much sought after goal. In this talk\, I will discuss our recent work in developing nanostructured materials for biologic delivery as well as injectable micro/nanoscale materials for the modulation of fibrosis and immune activation. By incorporating micro and nanoscale features into biomaterials\, one can modulate properties such as tissue permeability\, matrix production\, and cell activation. The understanding of how small scale topographies can influence the biological microenvironment allows us to design platforms for applications in therapeutic delivery and tissue regeneration. Micro and nanostructured materials can add functionality to current drug delivery platforms while becoming an enabling technology leading to new basic discoveries in the pharmaceutical and biological sciences. \n  \nDr. Tejal Desai\nProfessor\, Bioengineering\nChair\, Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences University of California\, San Francisco \nTejal Desai is the Ernest L Prien Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences within the Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine at UCSF\, the director of the NIH training grant for the Joint Graduate Program in Bioengineering at the UCB and UCSF\, and the founding director of the UCSF/UC Berkeley Masters Program in Translational Medicine.  She was recently named the Inaugural Director of the UCSF Engineering and Applied Sciences Initiative known as HIVE (Health Innovation Via Engineering).

SUMMARY:2020 BCRegMed 4th Annual Symposium
DESCRIPTION:BCREGMED is proud to host its 4th annual Symposium taking place September 29th and 30th. \nIn keeping with provincial and federal guidelines\, we have decided to take our Symposium VIRTUAL. The ongoing goal of BCREGMED is to provide opportunities for members of the regenerative medicine and cell therapy community to come together\, identify existing gaps in the field\, pursue new collaborations\, and continue working toward effective and permanent solutions to some of today’s most challenging and prevalent health care issues. We believe this goal can be just as effectively realized through our new digital mediums. \nLast year our Symposium garnered the attention of 230 delegates including: basic\, clinical\, and translational researchers\, post-doctoral and graduate-level trainees\, lawyers and industry-academic liaison officers\, investors\, and government representatives. We are eager to support the same level of enthusiasm this year via Zoom! \nAs in previous years\, we will showcase trainee research through posters and our Rapid Fire Talks!\nDeadline for abstract submission is September 4th!\nDeadline to register for the symposium is September 28th!
