Sit back\, relax\, and watch as our competitors battle to achieve science communication fame and glory while learning something new in our back-to-school themed event. \nWhat exactly is a science slam? Based on the format of a poetry slam\, a science slam is a competition where speakers gather to share their science with you – the audience. Competitors have five minutes to present on any science topic without the use of a slideshow and are judged based on communication skills\, audience impact and scientific content. Props and creative presentation styles are encouraged — no slides! \nInterested in competing as a Slammer for this event? No formal science background needed\, just some enthusiasm for science. Based on the format of a poetry slam\, a science slam is a competition where speakers gather to share their science with you – the audience. Competitors have five minutes to present on any science topic without the use of a slideshow and are judged based on communication skills\, audience impact and scientific content. Join us during Prostate Cancer Awareness month for our second golf tournament. \nOne in eight Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. On average 66 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every day and 12 men lose their life to this disease daily. \nEvery level of golf player is welcome at the Pars for Prostate tournament. In order to facilitate a smooth running tournament we are running this event with a Texas Scramble format with a shotgun start.

To register\, directly email Marc (marc.betsayda@ubc.ca). \nThis workshop series will be presented by Drs. Thibault Mayor\, Freda Miller\, David Ng\, Sheila Teves and Filip Van Petegem. It will include several presentations on different themes\, followed by interactive activities.
