SUMMARY:BioBasics 101: The Biology of Biotech for the Non-Scientist
DESCRIPTION:LSBC\, in partnership with Biotech Primer\, is pleased to present BioBasics 101: The Biology of Biotech for the Non-Scientist. This intensive two-day ‘master course’ is designed to help non-scientists gain a foundational understanding of the science that forms the backbone of biopharma so that you can converse more effectively with colleagues\, clients\, regulators\, and scientists. \nOn day one\, instructor and biotech consultant Kevin Curran\, Ph.D.\, will focus on the function of DNA\, RNA\, proteins\, and cell signaling and how each interacts in both healthy and diseased tissue. \nDay two will build on your newfound molecular biology knowledge\, including a more in-depth look at genetic disease and how genetic engineering is used to create personalized medicine options for patients. \nThe course concludes with a survey of small molecule drugs\, biologics\, and vaccines and explains how each mitigates disease at the molecular level. \nUpon completion of this course\, you will have: \n– Fluency in the essential terminology of the biopharma industry \n– An understanding of the science driving your company or client’s products \n– Improved ability to communicate with colleagues and stakeholders \n– Determination of where your organization “fits” in the healthcare landscape \n– Increased comprehension of innovative therapies within the biopharma industry \nSeating is limited\, so register early to reserve your spot.

SUMMARY:Molecular Signatures of Pregnancy Health and Child Development: What Can Measures of Biological Age Tell Us?
DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Health Seminar Series features multidisciplinary research on women’s health. The goal of the series is to provide multidisciplinary training for attendees\, including students across a broad range of women’s health research topics. Speakers will present their research regarding the biological\, psychological\, behavioural\, economic and social factors in women’s health and their effects on women’s health outcomes. The series is open to everyone that is interested in learning more about women’s health. \nSpeaker: Dr. Kieran O’Donnell\, Assistant Professor\, Yale Child Study Center & Dept. Obs. Gyn. & Repro Sciences\, Yale School of Medicine \nDr. O’Donnell is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed within the Yale Child Study Center and the Department of Obstetrics\, Gynecology\, and Reproductive Sciences at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr O’Donnell leads the Health-Omics and Perinatal Epidemiology research group\, which seeks to better understand individual differences in the fetal origins of mental health. \nTalk summary: \nAn ever-increasing number of biomarkers of aging have been developed and used to better predict individual differences in age-related pathologies. Such DNA methylation-based measures of biological age have been proposed as ‘integrative biomarkers of system health’. Here\, drawing on unique data from multiple prospective\, longitudinal pregnancy cohorts\, and a perinatal intervention\, we ask: can measures of biological aging inform our understanding of pregnancy health and child development?
