2019 Microscopical Society of Canada Annual Meeting
May 22, 2019 - 8:00 am - May 24, 2019 - 5:00 pm
The 2019 Microscopical Society of Canada (MSC) Annual meeting is a national imaging conference that will be held at the Life Sciences Centre between May 22nd to May 24th. This conference will cover broad topics in light and electron imaging technologies. An important training aspect of this conference is to allow graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate students to gain exposure to new light and electron microscopy technologies and to present their work. In addition to poster session, trainees will be given opportunities to present short talks in each of the six scientific symposia. Trainee awards for best talks and posters will be selected by keynote speakers and principal investigators.
For the 2019 MSC Annual Meeting, we have invited an exciting list of keynote speakers including:
Robert Glaeser – Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (http://biosciences.lbl.gov/profiles/robert-m-glaeser/)
-one of the founding fathers of the cryo-EM field
Joshua Vaughan – University of Washington (http://depts.washington.edu/chem/people/faculty/vaughan.html)
-tools development for high resolution fluorescence microscopy
Robert Campbell – University of Alberta

-tools development for live cell and tissue imaging
John Rubinstein – University of Toronto (http://www.sickkids.ca/AboutSickKids/Directory/People/R/John-Rubinstein.html)
-internationally renowned expert in cryo-EM structural analysis of membrane proteins and protein complexes
Yasushi Okada – RIKEN (http://www.qbic.riken.jp/english/research/outline/lab-07.html)
-developer of super resolution microscopy imaging hardware and approaches
Tamir Gonen – UCLA (http://www.biolchem.ucla.edu/people/faculty/tamir-gonen)
-developer of MicroED approach for rapid structural determination of small molecules and proteins
Abstract submission deadline will be March 30th, 2019, Early bird registration deadline will be April 15th, 2019. By securing sponsorships from academic units as well as different vendors, we have managed to keep the registration relatively low (starting at $250 for students/postdocs).
