25th Anniversary Celebration of Michael Smith’s Nobel Prize Symposium
The 25th Anniversary Celebration of Michael Smith’s Nobel Prize is presented by UBC’s Michael Smith Laboratories in partnership with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre.
Nobel Laureate, Dr. Michael Smith (1932-2000), will be remembered as a great humanitarian who was passionate about research and science. Michael was awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work in developing site-directed mutagenesis. This research opened the door to entirely new fields such as genetic engineering and synthetic biology. This symposium honours his legacy and includes an impressive lineup of talks.
Monday, Oct 1, 2018 – Scientific Symposium
The scientific symposium focuses on future trends in biotechnology research and education. The day will begin with a panel of Smith’s friends sharing a historical perspective on his wide-reaching contributions. Scientific talks include an outstanding set of speakers from:
