Focus on individuals for the future — How single-cell studies revolutionize the future of medicine and society
Medicine in the near future promises to focus on personalization and prevention. Bioanalysis may help rewrite current biology textbooks. This discussion will focus on the hype, hope and reality, and impact of future medicine on individuals. Similar to personalized medicine, single-cell studies have been the forefront of bioanalysis, and can provide unprecedented information on the complexity of living organisms and disease initiation. Systematic studies of single-cells, such as single-cell genomics and proteomics, will help revolutionize our fundamental understanding of biology and medicine, and prompt a rethink of life, longevity, and the structure of society.
Dr. Bingyun Sun, an associate professor at Simon Fraser University, is a member of Canadian Stem Cell Network, Canadian Glycomics Network, and Canadian National Proteomics Network, with a research focus on single-cell proteomics.
