Coyote Practices Neuroscience: The Cultural Determinants of Indigenous Brain Health and Settler Colonialism

January 27 - 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free

Topic: Coyote Practices Neuroscience: The Cultural Determinants of Indigenous Brain Health and Settler Colonialism

Speaker: Dr. Michael Yellow Bird, Professor, Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba

Abstract:
Coyote is a trickster, a survivor, who embodies complexity and duality. In this presentation, Dr. Michael Yellow Bird describes how the heroic side of Coyote can challenge conventional neuroscientific thinking. By embracing Indigenous cultural practices, including equanimity and grit, Coyote serves as a harbinger of better brain health and resilience through pathways of cultural adaptability, humor, movement, and contemplative practices.
