Grant Administration: Pre- and Post-Award Processes

In this workshop, the University of British Columbia (UBC) Office of Research Services research manager Susan O’Neil will provide an overview of grant administration procedures, including pre-award and post-award processes. The event will cover the topics of grant application signatures, research project information forms, research accounts, ethics compliance and more. This session will also touch on clinical trial registration and review the services provided by the UBC Office of Research Services.

Learning objectives

In this workshop you will learn:

– the services offered by the UBC Office of Research Services

– who to contact for assistance with grant and account queries

– the specific items needed for grant application signatures and research accounts

– tips for dealing with specific granting agency submissions

This workshop is part of our VCHRI Research Training Series. This series is designed to support the acquisition of advanced skills, techniques and knowledge and lead to enhanced practices in the conduct of research.

About the speaker
Susan O’Neil is a research manager at the UBC Office of Research Services, based at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. She oversees both pre- and post-award administrative processes for researchers located at Vancouver Coastal Health sites. She previously held positions as a Research Information Systems (RISe) business analyst at UBC and a genome finisher in the Pathogen Sequencing Unit at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Susan O’Neil holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UBC and has over 18 years of experience in research administration in both university and hospital settings.
