About this Event

Join us to learn about their career paths and current roles at Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR)!

Dr Julia Langton is an experienced health services researcher and has worked in the academic and government sectors in both Canada and Australia. She is passionate about transforming data into information that can be used for learning and decision making. As Manager, Evaluation & Impact Analysis at MSFHR, Julia is responsible for the Foundation’s evaluation and impact analysis strategy; this strategy includes measuring the overall impact of MSFHR, as well as individual programs, projects, partnerships and strategies. Throughout her career, Julia has seen first-hand the benefits of health research and joined MSFHR to apply systematic research methods to evaluate and understand the impact of government investment in health research in BC.

Dr. Genevieve Creighton is the Manager for Knowledge Translation at the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. Gen was an MSFHR postdoc trainee at UBC with a research focus on men’s depression and suicide. Her interest in KT was sparked by her doctoral and postdoctoral experiences in conducting qualitative, participatory research. She was inspired by the challenge of bringing research findings to community and policy makers in order to influence change. Gen joined the team at MSFHR to learn more about KT and lead province wide initiatives to further the efforts of knowledge translation.

Dr. Leslie Grad is the Manager, Research Programs (Design & Development) at the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. After completing his PhD in biochemistry at the University of Alberta, Les commenced postdoctoral work at the University of British Columbia, working to develop therapeutics against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Wanting to engage with a variety of stakeholders within the health research ecosystem, he transitioned to a management role at PrioNet Canada, a Network of Centres of Excellence focused on prion disease research. With a strong passion to help support the BC health research community, Les now leads the development and assessment of MSFHR’s research funding programs.
