SFU Café Scientifique

October 26, 2018 - 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

SFU Cafe Scientifique

Chemistry and chemical communication drive many of the interactions between microorganisms in the environment. Our laboratory is developing new methods to characterize this microbial crosstalk, and using these new tools to learn more about the roles that these molecules play in both the native environment, and human health applications. Using the robotics facilities in the new Centre for High-Throughput Chemical Biology (HTCB) at Simon Fraser University we are developing new approaches to characterize the biological attributes of these fascinating and complex molecules. These results contribute to improving our understanding of bacterial pathogenesis, and may one day even lead to the development of new antibiotics.

Associate Professor Linington is a Canada Research Chair in High-Thoughput Screening and Chemical Biology, and is the Director of the HTCB. His research program straddles the dividing line between chemistry and biology, and aims to develop new methods to both chemically characterize the compound produced in bacterial cultures, and understand the biological roles of these compounds in human health targets.
