“SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination and Immune Thrombocytopenia”
Cases of severe thrombocytopenia following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in patients without previous immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) including an early fatality raised concern, particularly among those with preexisting ITP, regarding the safety of vaccination. We reviewed the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) to identify cases suspicious for de novo ITP (last access March 19, 2021) and gathered data across several centers regarding adult patients with ITP who received a SARS-CoV2 vaccine. Our (yet unpublished) findings support that the majority of patients with ITP did well after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.
