Stories by:

Joanne Tsung hails from the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Skxwú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Fat, queer and tattooed, Joanne has found solace and community in writing comedy and has done stand up in Vancouver, Toronto and (virtually) in Manitoba.

Mary Saunders has long endeavoured to nurture her interests in both the arts and sciences. She got her 1st degree in Applied Animal Biology from UBC, then earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. She’s also performed in local sketch and improv comedy, worked as a 2nd Assistant Cameraperson, and been published on multiple satirical online news sources. Mary doesn’t know what she’s doing and is pretty sure nobody does.

Sasha Mark (he/him/they/them) is a Cree-Métis stand up comedian from Treaty 1 territory that is currently based out of Vancouver, BC. Sasha is one of the leading Indigiqueercomedians leading the field in the nation, being featured and working with the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, 604 Records, Just For Laughs, Pride, BellTV, OutTV, CBC, Talking Stick Festival, APTN’s “The Laughing Drum”, and is a teacher and project manager for Blind Tiger Comedy. They are also the producer and host of the successful local shows the “Sasha Ha-Ha Show” and “Camp!Comedy!”

Alyssa Gehman is a Hakai Institute Scientist and Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, whose current field research focuses on sea star wasting disease and rocky intertidal programs. She received her PhD from the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia in 2016 and her M.S. degree from Western Washington University in 2008. Alyssa’s research explores how host-parasite interactions shape or are shaped by ecological communities and their environment. Personally, Alyssa enjoys playing in and around the oceans and the mountains, is a doting Aunt, and a recreational acrobat.
