Zoom Talk: Methods and Tools for Interpreting Brain Transcriptomes

April 24, 2020 - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Dr. Pavlidis will discuss concepts and challenges important to the use of RNA expression in neurogenomics and how they can be addressed using computational approaches. He will introduce some of the neuroinformatic resources his team has developed to help researchers benefit from this kind of data, including Gemma (a curated database of over 10,000 transcriptome studies) and NeuroExpresso (cell-type-specific expression patterns). One specific challenge in analyzing samples taken from brain tissue is cellular heterogeneity. Dr. Pavlidis will describe how this can be addressed to extract additional biological information from the data, and an application to the study of schizophrenia and biopolar disorder
