DESCRIPTION:In this session\, Vancouver Coastal Health library services librarian\, Vinny Gibson\, will share an overview of VCH library services. He will provide an introduction to database searching with a focus on health care resources\, including information on accessing VCH databases and how to search for articles to support your research question. He will also explain how to access library and intranet resources and share tips and tricks for using academic databases in your research. \nThis workshop is part of our VCHRI Research Training Series. SUMMARY:Science Slam: Came in Like a Slam-ing Ball
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the wonder of Science Slam!\n\nWe are Vancouver’s most epic science showdown. Sit back\, relax\, and watch as our competitors battle to achieve science communication fame and glory while learning something new in to kick off the fall season.\n\nWhat exactly is a science slam? Based on the format of a poetry slam\, a science slam is a competition where speakers gather to share their science with you – the audience. Competitors have five minutes to present on any science topic without the use of a slideshow and are judged based on communication skills\, audience impact and scientific content. Props and creative presentation styles are encouraged — no slides!\n\nWe are looking for Slammers!\nInterested in participating? While the Slam scores are being tabulated\, members of our audience are welcome to come on stage and participate in a fun\, improv show very loosely inspired by science. \nDoors open at 7pm\, event begins at 7:30pm. \n\nSee you there!\n\nNotes:\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible. The main cabaret room is accessible through a ramped entrance. We also have a wheelchair accessible washroom in the space as well.\nVenue is a 19+ venue with non-gendered bathrooms.\nThere will be photography and short videos taken throughout the event for promotional purposes.\nScience Slam acknowledges that this event takes place on the traditional\, ancestral\, and unceded territory of the Squamish\, Musqueam\, and Tsleil Waututh Nation. Many of our attendees\, Science Slam included\, are guests of these territories and must act accordingly.\nScience Slam is an inclusive event\, as a result hate speech and abuse will not be tolerated.
