The Michael Smith Laboratories at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver invites applications for a Research Associate position in Computational Biology to join the laboratory of Dr. Marco Marra. The successful candidate will support a dynamic interdisciplinary team of scientists and trainees in the area of cancer genomics and precision medicine.
Applicants are expected to have completed their PhD in a relevant discipline such as bioinformatics or genome science and at least five years of experience in a closely related research field, such as cancer research. They are required to have a strong computational background (especially in R and/or Python), to be familiar with the analysis of single-cell genomic datasets, and to have demonstrated a rigorous ability to extract both biological and technical information from large-scale sequencing datasets. In particular, applicants must have demonstrated experience in single-cell genomics and high-throughput sequencing data analysis; a strong publication record, particularly related to single-cell genomics; programming fluency in Python or R; and be proficient at working in a Unix/Linux computing environment.
The Research Associate will lead projects, contribute to the analysis of unique and large-scale sequencing datasets (including single-cell and long-read sequencing), and build collaborations with internal and external investigators. Responsibilities will include the design and application of robust computational workflows to analyze large-scale ‘omics data. The Research Associate will be involved in a range of projects in both supporting and leading capacities, with opportunities to learn new skills and contribute to research directly and indirectly.
Interested applicants should submit a letter of application that highlights their experience, detailed curriculum vitae including a list of publications, and contact details for 3 references. Application materials should be submitted no later than the posting end date.
This position will begin ASAP. This is a full-time term appointment subject to annual renewal. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
