Avivo Biomedical Inc. is a privately-owned biotechnology company based in Vancouver that is making blood types obsolete by developing medical devices to convert donated organs or blood products to the universal donor type: group O. Having universal organs and blood means eliminating the blood-matching barrier, which allows patients to be prioritized by medical urgency, saving more lives and wasting less organs and ensuring a more reliable supply of universal donor blood needed to save the lives of patients. Avivo is a young company with a growing, collaborative, energetic team currently located on the Vancouver UBC campus.
Position: Technician – Avivo Biomedical Inc.
We are seeking a highly motivated Technician to join the Process Development and Analytic team at Avivo. In this capacity, the Technician will support the development of upstream and downstream processes, as well as impurity assay development to support the ongoing development of our bacterial-produced enzyme-based product. These activities will involve a combination of protein biochemistry, enzymology and molecular biology. An ideal candidate must be able to take initiative in problem solving, prioritise assignments, work efficiently under time constraints, and work within teams and with minimum supervision.
The successful candidate will have a B.Sc., or a combination of education and experience, in biochemistry (or related field) with a minimum of one year of laboratory experience in molecular biology or protein biochemistry. The candidate should have excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written) and familiarity with following skills would be an asset:
· Culture media and buffer preparation.
· Sterile liquid and pyrogen-free material handling
· Protein purification using chromatographical methods
· Fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC)
· Protein analytical methods
· Molecular biological methods (agarose gel electrophoresis, PCR, gene cloning, transformation of plasmid DNA)
· Experience at performing ELISA
· Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
· Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic technical environment.
