Dr. Liam Brunham was recently announced as a recipient of the Canada’s Top 40 under 40 Award for 2017. Dr. Brunham is a Principal Investigator at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at UBC, and an attending physician in the Healthy Heart Program at St. Paul’s Hospital. Founded in 1995 by Caldwell Partners, Canada’s top 40 Under 40 is an awards program that identifies outstanding young achievers in Canada who are visionaries and innovators. Awardees are leaders in business and the broader public sectors and include CEOs and top technological and medical specialists.
Dr. Liam Brunham is a deserving winner of this award with an exceptional list of accomplishments. This includes being the co-Principal Investigator of the Study to Avoid cardioVascular Events in British Columbia (SAVE BC), which is identifying new ways to predict, treat, and reduce early-onset cardiovascular disease in high-risk patients and their families. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and grants from the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Genome BC, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), including a recently awarded CIHR Project Grant for his study investigating ways to predict and prevent the harmful effects of chemotherapeutic drugs on the cardiovascular system.
