In the last week, two VPC researchers have been awarded grants to fund research projects aimed at improving the treatment prostate cancer.
Dr. Alex Wyatt and his team, including Drs. Kim Chi and Faraz Hach, were awarded a Movember Discovery Grant for their project, “Genomic truncation of the Androgen Receptor in poor-prognosis castration-resistant prostate cancer.” Funded by the Movember Foundation, selected by Prostate Cancer Canada, and announced September 28, the winners were chosen based on novel research projects that have the potential to make a significant difference in a number of areas across the spectrum of prostate cancer research.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) awarded Dr. Amina Zoubeidi (VPC/UBC) and Dr. Himisha Beltran (Weill Cornell Medical College) a 2017 PCF Challenge Award, for their project “Targeting BRN2 in Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer”. The Challenge Awards support international, cross-disciplinary teams of investigators conducting pioneering research into critical, unmet medical needs in areas that have the highest potential for impacting and extending lives of men with advanced prostate cancer. This year’s awardees were annouced on the first day of the PCF Annual Scientic Retreat, October 5.
