UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences assistant professor Mohsen Sadatsafavi will receive the 2018 Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC) New Investigator Research Award at an awards banquet to be held in June.
Dr. Sadatsafavi is an epidemiologist and health outcomes scientist with UBC Pharm Sci’s Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation, where he leads the Respiratory Evaluation Sciences program (RESP). RESP is an innovative research program with a goal to improve patient outcomes and streamline healthcare delivery in respiratory medicine through evidence-based decision making.
“RESP has a unique dual focus,” explains Dr. Sadatsafavi. “We are not only building on a knowledge base about the gaps in care and effectiveness of treatments, but we are translating this knowledge into specific, policy-relevant, and actionable messages.”
Dr. Sadatsafavi holds an MD from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and an MHSc in epidemiology and PhD in health economics and outcomes research, both from the University of British Columbia. He joined the Faculty in 2017 and is also affiliated with the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation and the UBC Division of Respiratory Medicine.
The AFPC Awards Program recognizes the exceptional achievements of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences faculty and students across Canada. The Awards are presented as part of the AFPC Annual Canadian Pharmacy Education and Research Conference (CPERC), which this year will be held June 12-14 in Ottawa, Ontario. The 2018 Conference will be co-hosted by the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo.
Dr. Sadatsafavi’s Respiratory Evaluation Sciences program is supported by a Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s New Investigator Salary Award and a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research’s Scholar Award.
