Ten HLI Trainees Win CIHR Travel Awards

Together, trainees at the HLI brought in one third of all of the CIHR Travel Awards granted to UBC in the Spring of 2018, an outstanding accomplishment! Trainee award-winners will receive a $1000 stipend to support their attendance at an international conference this spring.

The winners are:

  • Anthony Tam – Biological Role of FAM13A in Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Inflammatory Response – to present at the American Thoracic Society Conference, San Diego, California (May, 2018)
  • Feng Xu – The nature of the hot spot for tissue destruction in COPD – to present at the American Thoracic Society Conference, San Diego, California (May, 2018)
  • Fernando Studart – Sputum Microbiome is Associated with 1-Year Mortality in COPD Exacerbations – to present at the American Thoracic Society Conference, San Diego, California (May, 2018)
  • Josh Dubland – Lysosomal dysfunction in smooth muscle cells relative to macrophages provides new insights into foam cell lipid accumulation – to present at the Canadian Lipoprotein Conference, Toronto, Canada (June, 2018)
  • Junyan Shi – Targeting a fast-forming proteotypic peptide for rapid quantification of apolipoprotein A1 in plasma by LC-MS/MS – to present at the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) Conference, Chicago, Illinois (July-Aug, 2018)
  • Kelly Genga – PCSK9 Loss-of-Function (LOF) Genotype is Associated with Decreased Readmission or Death in Sepsis Associated with Shock and/or Pulmonary Dysfunction – to present at the American Thoracic Society Conference, San Diego, California (May, 2018)
  • Kimia Shahangian – Murine Sensitization with House-Dust Mite Extract Alters the Immune Response towards H1N1 – to present at the American Thoracic Society Conference, San Diego, California (May, 2018)
