We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Pamela Hoodless as Department Head of the Terry Fox Laboratory (TFL) effective September 14th, 2018. She replaces Dr. Keith Humphries who is stepping down after eight years as head of the TFL.
Dr. Hoodless completed her PhD at Queen’s University in Kingston Ontario, followed by postdoctoral work at Rockefeller University in New York, and The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Dr. Hoodless joined the TFL and the Department of Medical Genetics at UBC in 2000, was promoted to full Professor in 2013 and recently accepted a Faculty appointment in the new School of Biomedical Engineering. She is currently a Distinguished Scientist in the TFL at BC Cancer.
Dr. Hoodless has a dedicated history of service to our local scientific community. In addition to her extensive UBC service, at BC Cancer she currently serves as the Academic Director for the BC Cancer Animal Resource Centre and Director of the BC Cancer Genetic Modeling Centre. She also provides support and leadership to the BC Cancer Scientific Professional Staff Association, where she has been an Executive Member since 2014, and recently as a member of the BC Cancer Strategic Planning Committee.
Dr. Hoodless has strong leadership skills; she is a superb communicator and great listener with an inclusive and collegial leadership style. Pamela will guide the TFL through a new phase of growth and renewal, building on exceptional scientific achievements by TFL scientists.
We thank Keith for his leadership and dedication to BC Cancer and welcome Pamela to her new role.
