Dr. Karla Williams, assistant professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC) has received a Canada Research Chair in Oncology. Dr. Williams is one of 187 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs at 49 institutions across the country, and one of 12 new chair holders at UBC.
The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, announced the significant investments into the Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP) on November 13 at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario. The announcement includes a new investment of $210 million from the Government of Canada, adding 285 new chairs over the next five years. The investment also supports early career researchers and Tier 2 Chairs who will receive additional funds of up to $20,000 to help them establish their research projects.

These prestigious Canada Research Chairs are improving the lives of Canadians and pushing the boundaries of human knowledge, helping ensure a bright future for Canada,” Duncan says.
Dr. Karla Williams received her PhD from the University of Guelph in 2013 and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in surgery at Western University. Dr. Williams’ research program is focused on cancer cell dissemination and the development of evidence based medicine for cancer detection and prognostication.
