Dr. Michael Hawes, CEO of Fulbright Canada, and Dr. Alejandro Adem, CEO of Mitacs, are pleased to announce the Fulbright Canada – Mitacs Globalink Research program to support student mobility and educational exchange between Canada and the United States of America. This partnership will leverage Mitacs’s expertise in supporting research-based innovation and Fulbright Canada’s standing as a global leader in the international academic exchange and public diplomacy space.

The Fulbright Canada – Mitacs Globalink Research program aims to give students the opportunity to grow, both academically and professionally, through participation in world-class research projects and exposure to major industry players in their fields of study.

Over the next three years, this partnership will bring up to 75 senior undergraduate students from the United States to conduct research in Canada. Starting in May 2020, the first cohort of students will spend 12 weeks at Canadian universities focusing on research projects under the supervision of faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

This partnership will expand to bring graduate-level researchers to Canada, while simultaneously establishing bilateral mobility in the program between the United States and Canada. In addition, it will see students apply their specialized expertise to business challenges through research internships.

“Fulbright Canada is pleased to join forces with Mitacs, an organization that shares our commitment to investing in our best and brightest young scholars and researchers,” said Dr. Michael Hawes, CEO of Fulbright Canada. “This new partnership will provide exciting opportunities for sharing ideas, innovations, and knowledge between our two great nations.”

“Mitacs is proud and privileged to be partnering with Fulbright Canada to give new research opportunities to students,” said Mitacs CEO, Dr. Alejandro Adem. “Together, we are encouraging the exchange of research knowledge and innovations between Canada and the U.S. for the benefit of both our economies and societies.”

“When we pool our knowledge, talent, and aspirations, we can achieve amazing results. The United States and Canada have seen this time and time again through our space collaboration and other joint research projects. The Fulbright Canada – Mitacs Globalink Research program will build bridges between the next generation of American and Canadian researchers to advance scientific knowledge and new technologies that improve our lives and build our economy,” said U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft.
