We are excited to congratulate Lauren Durland and Thomas Worthington, the 2023-24 recipients of the Zymeworks Fellowship in Advanced Protein Therapeutics. The award, created in part in recognition of the Noble laureate Dr. Michael Smith, is a partnership between Zymeworks Inc., the Michael Smith Laboratories (MSL), and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (MBIM) at the University of British Columbia. One student from each department is provided a one-year fellowship of $20,000 to support health science research that aligns with Zymeworks’ focus on immune-based treatments for disease.
Fellowship recipient Lauren Durland (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the biomedical engineering program. She joined the Zandstra Lab at the MSL in 2021 after completing her Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto, where she specialized in molecular genetics.
