This month, we’re highlighting the 2023-2024 William and Dorothy Gilbert Scholarships Awardees, PhD candidates Karol Buda (pictured, left) and Marie Johns (right). Karol Buda’s research in the Tokuriki Lab at UBC is focused on studying the evolution of novel protein functions and the mechanisms that drive them. Marie Johns ’ research in the Jefferies Lab at UBC involves the use of both mouse and human stem cell-derived models to study Alzheimer’s disease. Congratulations to them both!
